Dr Marianne completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine at the National University of Singapore. Thereafter, she progressed to advanced specialty training in gastroenterology at Singhealth and is an accredited specialist in gastroenterology with more than 10 years of endoscopy experience. She regularly performs endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy and colonoscopy for cancer screening , as well as therapeutic interventions to remove polyps or control bleeding.

In addition, her subspecialty focus is on liver disease. She was invited to join Sengkang General Hospital as a specialist in its inaugural year and helped to set up the hepatology service. She was the head of hepatology from 2022-2025, expanding and leading a team of specialists, specialty nurses, research and care coordinators. Having a special interest in palliative hepatology and liver cirrhosis, she further pursued a graduate diploma in palliative medicine and was director of the multidisciplinary liver supportive care programme-PEACE, a pilot programme she established for end-stage liver disease, pioneering a new model of care which has been adopted by other hospitals. She wrote and implemented hospital protocols and served as a committee member in various workgroups for liver disease. Her research interests include fatty liver, palliation in liver disease, liver cirrhosis and its complications. She has participated in several multi-centre research collaborations with competitive grant support. Dr Marianne was actively involved in education and was appointed as Asst Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and NUS Yong Loo Ling School of Medicine. She was also the Site Director, Core Faculty and Clinical Competency Committee member for the Singhealth Gastroenterology Senior Residency Programme. She continues to be a visiting consultant at Sengkang General Hospital.

Dr Marianne’s approach to patient care is guided by empathy and a commitment to improving quality of life for her patients. She believes in personalizing treatment plans through shared goals, with patient safety and comfort at the heart of every step.

Outside of work, she enjoys the rich flavours of Peranakan cuisine, reminiscent of her Eurasian heritage. Her happiest moments are spent with family, and she is frequently spotted at playgrounds and swimming pools or getting a caffeine fix.

Dr Marianne is a consultant in internal medicine and an accredited specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology. Her subspecialty expertise is in liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, fatty liver disease, and palliative hepatology. She has a strong commitment to improving quality of life for patients with advanced liver disease and further pursued a graduate diploma in palliative medicine.

She led and expanded the hepatology service at Sengkang General Hospital and chaired multidisciplinary teams including the hepatobiliary tumour board and the liver supportive care programme- PEACE. Dr Marianne was the founding PEACE programme director, leading a team of more than 30 members across multiple disciplines to provide holistic, coordinated care for patients with liver disease both in hospital and in the community. Her model of care has since been adopted and expanded to other hospitals in Singapore.

Dr Marianne also cares for patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, from reflux, abnormal bowel habits, irritable bowel symptoms to more complex disorders of the digestive tract. Prior to private practice, she had more than 10 years of endoscopy experience at high volume centres in the public sector and supervised senior residents in endoscopy. She regularly performs endoscopic procedures, including cancer screening gastroscopy and colonoscopy, as well as therapeutic interventions to remove polyps or control bleeding.

  • Dr Marianne has contributed to national registries, writing and implementation of hospital protocols, and was principal investigator for multicentre research collaborations. She secured competitive grants to advance supportive care in liver cirrhosis.
  • She was invited to present her work at major scientific conferences, such as The Liver Meeting-AASLD, EASL Congress, Digestive Disease Week and has published in high impact factor journals such as The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Hepatology, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is a regular peer reviewer for several international journals.
  • Dr Marianne’s dedication to advancing clinical medicine won her Best Poster Award (WCBIP), AASLD Abstract Award with travel grant and she was awarded a competitive grant for her pilot programme, PEACE.
  • Her consistency in delivering empathetic, holistic care with service excellence were recognized with You Sparkle! Award which she received in 2023 and 2024, Singapore Health Quality Service Award in 2022 and 2025 and You Shine! Award in 2025. She also received the Singhealth Long Service Award (10 years) and the Covid-19 Resilience Medal to healthcare heroes for her service in the public sector.
  • Her contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate education were honoured with the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Dean’s Special Recognition Award to teaching excellence, and Outstanding Faculty Award (Gastroenterology).
  • In acknowledgement of her achievements, Dr Marianne was conferred as Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Marianne was actively involved in teaching, guided by an educational philosophy that emphasizes psychological safety, fairness, and encouragement. She held appointments as Asst. Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and was an examiner for final year medical students.

She served as Site Director and Core Faculty of the SingHealth Gastroenterology Senior Residency Programme and guided residents through their clinical and academic development. Dr Marianne was also part of the Singhealth Gastroenterology Clinical Competency Committee, ensuring fair and objective standards of assessment were upheld. She played an active role in helping Sengkang General Hospital attain accreditation for gastroenterology residency training.

In addition to these, Dr Marianne directly mentored specialty nurses, research coordinators and medical students who chose to do elective postings with her. She views her educational roles as both a responsibility and a privilege. Her efforts were honoured with the Outstanding Faculty Award (Gastroenterology) and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Dean’s Special Recognition Award for Teaching Excellence.
