Dr Chen Weihao is a specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology with special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis) and intestinal ultrasound.
Dr Weihao obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 2008. He then attained his Membership of the Royal College of Physician (MRCP) from the United Kingdom and his Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Dr Weihao did his specialist training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was accredited as aspecialist in gastroenterology and hepatology with the Specialist Accreditation Board,
Singapore in 2016. In 2018, he was awarded the Healthcare Manpower Development
Programme scholarship by Ministry of Health to undergo subspecialty training in
inflammatory bowel disease & clinical nutrition, at Austin Hospital, Australia. He also trained in Germany to become one of the first local gastroenterologists proficient in intestinal
ultrasound.

Dr Chen Weihao is a specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology with subspecialty interest in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis). He formally practiced gastroenterology and hepatology in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital where he established the hospital’s inflammatory bowel disease and point-of-care intestinal ultrasound services.
He is an integral member of the hospital nutrition support team and is the main gastroenterologist responsible for the care of malnourished patients on parenteral nutrition as well as patients with short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure.
Dr Weihao is an accomplished endoscopist experienced in performing diagnostic scopes such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy (including advanced imaging techniques such as chromoendoscopy), video capsule endoscopy as well as interventional procedures [such as polyp removal, banding of swollen veins (varices), stomach feeding tube insertion (PEG) etc].
Dr Weihao was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award from the Ministry of Health, Singapore in 2018.
He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in medical journals such as British Medical Journal Open Gastroenterology and the POCUS journal.
In addition, he is an invited speaker at local and regional conferences about various topics related to inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal ultrasound.
Dr Weihao was a clinical physician faculty member for the NUHS Gastroenterology Senior Residency programme and was involved in the training of aspiring gastroenterologists. He was a clinical teacher for medical students from both Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, National Technological University. Furthermore, he was a clinical preceptor to Master of Nursing students from the NUS.
While he was in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Dr Weihao was also a core clinical faculty member and subsequently the associate program director of the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital National PGY1 programme.
